During May 25-26, 2021, the Association of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine of Ukraine and the P.L. Shupik’s National University of Health of Ukraine held the Scientific & Practical Conference with International Participation “Current State and Development Trends for the Development of Laboratory Medicine in Ukraine”, which took place as part of the International Congress of Laboratory Medicine – 2021 at the “KyivExpoPlaza” Exhibition Center.
The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. S.V. Klymenko, M.D., D.Sc., Professor of the Department of Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics at the P.L. Shupik’s National University of Health of Ukraine, ACCLMU President; V.A. Deev, Ph.D., Head of the Laboratory for Biochemistry and Bacteriology at the O.O. Shalimov’s National Institute of Surgery and Transplantology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, as well as A.B. Kheilomskyi, Chairman of the ACCLMU Council.
More than 500 specialists from all regions of Ukraine joined the conference, in person and online.
The Conference paid special attention to the problematic issues of training laboratory medicine specialists. In particular, a panel discussion was held with the participation of an expert who took part in the development of the order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine from 26.02.2021 №366 concerning specialists with higher non-medical education working in medical laboratories. The plenary sessions also discussed topical issues of pandemic control, in particular the problem of choosing PCR test systems, the peculiarities of humoral immunity after recovery from COVID-19 etc. Particular attention was paid to the issues of HLA-typing for transplantation, the peculiarities of the implementation of ISO 15189 in the practice of medical laboratories, as well as the introduction of modern laboratory diagnostic technologies, including the new generation sequencing methods (NGS).
Within the framework of the Conference, ACCLMU Council meeting was held, during which representatives of regional centers shared their experience in implementing the order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine from 26.02.2021 №366 in their regions and discussed the prospects for the development of the Association. It was very important to exchange the experience of laboratory medicine experts on current trends in laboratory medicine in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
