Dear Colleagues,
The next IFCC webinar: “Detection of Acute Kidney Injury: Definitions, Biomarkers and e-Alerts” – will be held on June 18, 2025.
The session titled “Detection of Acute Kidney Injury: Definitions, Biomarkers and e-Alerts” will provide a comprehensive overview of the current landscape of acute kidney injury (AKI) detection, with a focus on its early identification, emerging biomarkers, and innovative alert systems. The first speaker, Dr. Melanie Hoenig, will introduce the audience to AKI, exploring its various subtypes, pathophysiology, and the critical importance of early detection for improved patient outcomes. By emphasizing the clinical significance of prompt intervention, Dr. Hoenig will highlight the challenges in recognizing AKI in its early stages and the need for effective diagnostic strategies. The second speaker, Dr. Dennis Moledina, will delve into the latest developments in AKI biomarkers, discussing their potential to improve early diagnosis and treatment decisions. While biomarkers hold promise, the speaker will also address their limitations, including issues related to sensitivity, specificity, and their ability to predict clinical outcomes. The final speaker, Dr. Rajeevan Selvaratnam, will review recent studies evaluating the use of electronic alert systems (e-alerts) to enhance AKI detection inclinical settings. By analyzing the effectiveness of these alert systems in improving timely interventions and patient outcomes, this presentation will offer insights into how digital tools can support clinicians in managing AKI more efficiently. Together, the three talks will provide a holistic understanding of the challenges and innovations in the detection and managementof acute kidney injury.
