ABSTRACT: Urinalysis is one of the most common tests performed in Clinical Analysis laboratories worldwide. Despite the simplicity of the method this test can furnish a wide range of information specially to help in the diagnosis of diseases from the kidneys and the urinary tract. The proper knowledge on the recognition of urinary particles and in the comprehension of the urine sediment profiles are mandatory to develop a work in urinalysis on the highest level possible. This webinar will focus on the different analytical phases of the test specially explaining about the urinary findings observed in the different profiles of diseases that can be identified in urine samples.

Dr. José A. T. Poloni Graduated in Pharmacy-Biochemistry at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS). He started to work at Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Porto Alegre in the Carlos Franco Voegeli Clinical Analysis Laboratory in 2005. The major part of the period of work in the laboratory was dedicated to Urinalysis. He performed two courses to improve the quality of his work, the first at Research Laboratory on Urine Microscopy from Ospedale Maggiore Milano – Milan, Italy and the second at Zytopathologie Laboratorie from Universitätsspital Basel, Basel, Switzerland. During the period of work at Santa Casa, he complemented his studies with a Masters and a Doctoral degrees, both in Epidemiology and Diagnostic Methods in the Post Graduation Program of Health Sciences at Universidade Federal de Ciências da Saúde de Porto Alegre (UFCSPA). In 2014 he was invited to be Urinalysis Consultant by Controllab, an External Quality Program provider, partner of Sociedade Brasileira de Patologia Clínica/Medicina Laboratorial (SBPC/ML).
