New EFLM webinar: Haemostatic disorders in COVID-19 patients

The pathogenesis of COVID-19 is closely related to haemostatic disorders and the development of hypercoagulability. Clinical manifestations are determined by microthrombosis in the pulmonary circulation and other parts of the vascular bed. However, coagulopathy in COVID-19 is different from DIC or sepsis and is being actively studied. Already from the first months of pandemic, it became clear that one of the key methods of treatment for severe infection should be antithrombotic therapy.

The presentation will address the mechanisms of haemostasisc disorders in COVID-19, laboratory diagnostic methods, principles of anticoagulation and it’s monitoring. International recommendations for the diagnosis and correction of haemostatic disorders in COVID-19 will be considered.

Tatiana Vavilova was educated at the First Leningrad Medical Institute in 1968-1974 and specialized in surgery, anaesthesiology and resuscitation. Later, her practice focused on clinical and laboratory haemostasiology. Currently, she is the Head of Laboratory Medicine and Genetics Department at the Almazov National Medical Research Centre (Saint-Petersburg, Russia). She also holds the position of the chief specialist in clinical laboratory diagnostics of the Ministry of Health of Russia.

Her research activities focus on haemostasis disorders, the risks of thrombosis and antithrombotic therapy. The results of her research were presented at all ISTH congresses since 2003, in numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts. Tatiana Vavilova is a well-known lecturer in Russia and post-Soviet countries.
