| ABSTRACT : Laboratory tests results have a decisive influence on the choice of treatment, its success and the prognosis of the patient. In order to ensure the reliability of laboratory test results, a close communication is required between the laboratory and the medical staff. The communication should be expressed in discussion concerning specific cases and the current provision of demographic, clinical and epidemiological information about patients. As the industry moves towards switching to automated systems that perform many laboratory tests in a short time, and with the merger of laboratories, the contact with the medical staff is gradually reduced. As part of the lecture, we will use clinical case studies to provide examples for the importance of the communication between the clinician and the laboratory. The examples will include cases from different laboratories.. |

| ABOUT THE SPEAKER : Dr. Avi Peretz holds PhD in Medical Sciences and Masters in Healthcare Management (MHM). Manager of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory and Research Institute at the Baruch Padeh Medical Center, Poria. Senior lecturer at the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine, Bar Ilan University. As of 2017 serves as the President of the Israel Society for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (ISCLS). The research interests of Dr. Peretz include the characterization and identification of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and the development of quick detection methods for pathogenic bacteria. His recent research was focused mainly on Clostridium difficile and Helicobacter pylori. To this day, Dr. Peretz has published about 80 articles and has won research grants and prestigious awards. As part of his work, Dr. Peretz attempts to combine the diagnostic activity in the clinical laboratory with medical research, and strengthen the connection between the medical staff and the laboratory. |
